Private Contract Project

Russell Street Newtown

A beautifully restored Queenslander, this Russell Street home renovation project wouldn’t have been complete without bringing back to life the heritage metal roof features and embellishments of its time. With the help of versatile Australian Bluescope steel, Rubiks Roofing were able to coordinate a highly technical project involving a bullnose verandah with custom curved sheeting, curved and stained hardwood rafters, and seamless lobster tail curved valleys, and classic Queenslander roof embellishments. With Colorbond Shale Grey sheeting, Night Sky trims, and Surfmist undersides to the verandah, this home is sure to impress.

Insurance Builder Contracted Project

Murray Street, Pittsworth

30 Minutes away from Toowoomba in the rural town of Pittsworth lies yet another eye-catching restored Queenslander. Following the 2021 Toowoomba Storm Event, Rubiks Roofing coordinated with contractors under a Queensland Insurance Builder in a timely manner to carry out a replacement of the hail damaged roof system, all the time allowing the Homeowners to rest assured knowing that repairs are being carried out with excellent workmanship and teamwork amongst multiple trades. Having received a perfect independent roof audit post-work, and knowing the Homeowners could once again resume their everyday lives after a tragic weather event, this is one of the projects that we have held closest to our hearts.

Commercial 400m²

485 Ruthven Street, Toowoomba City

Complexities/Challenges

This project was one of our most complex, requiring night works, custom designs, and extensive safety planning. We dealt with curved trusses needing laser-level adjustments and welded brackets, coordinated traffic control permits and road closures in the CBD, and managed flood lighting for night crane lifts. Stormwater upgrades were also essential, including installing new sumps and suspended lines to meet compliance with modern standards.

Highlights

This job taught us how to coordinate our own project without the assistance of a principal contractor, taking charge of multiple aspects of the build and working closely with different trades. We are grateful to work with building companies that support our growth and experience, and this project was a highlight that helped set us up for future success.

Commercial 1300m²

174 Hume Street, Toowoomba City

Complexities/Challenges

This was a project run through a commercial builder and project partner. Some of the challenges we navigated were the builder’s timeline expectations; however, we ensured we kept an open line of communication on what the builder and clients’ expectations were. There were multiple trades on these jobs, so it was imperative that we communicated any changes or delays and had the appropriate approvals to keep the schedule on track. The building was being renovated to accommodate the new client, Ventia Group.

Highlights

The works for this project were showcased on several social media platforms through Ventia. We take pride in the quality work we do, and to be showcased was extremely humbling. This project was a total of 18 working days from start to finish.

Commercial 1800m²

12 Peace Street, Harlaxton

Complexities/Challenges

All the box gutter lining and hangers had to be removed to accommodate the installation of new stormwater. We installed box gutters and sumps with adequate falls to stormwater outlets. We core drilled tilt panel walls and installed additional overflow relief. All these works were implemented to ensure adequate roof drainage, as the building had been leaking for several years with minor repairs unable to prevent water ingress. All designs were hand drawn and laminated to ensure all team members could easily access the documentation and ensure correct installation.

Highlights

This design was constructed by the Director, Tyson McErvale, and the highlight was that we were able to service this private commercial project to remedy poor workmanship and design faults with his new designs. From installing our own edge protection to the crane lifts, roof insulation, and site clean, this project was completed within 14 working days. Since then, we have successfully completed three other smaller residential roofs for this client.

Commercial 400m²

19A Russell Street, Toowoomba City

Complexities/Challenges

Job location and the height of the building were the key challenges for this project, along with navigating the regulations for traffic control outside normal trading hours to minimise community impact.

Highlights

The QLD Electrical Union were incredibly happy with the outcome of this project. We were able to deliver not only a seamless finished result but also share some amazing footage of the roof coming together. This project was completed within a total of 7 days, from safety measures and edge protection installation, through to material delivery, works completion, full site clean, and safety rail dismantle. We engaged one of our commercial subcontractor crews to complete the works.

Commercial

128 Margaret Street, Toowoomba City

Complexities/Challenges

This project was run through a commercial builder and partner. The main challenge was transporting the oversized load through the CBD and craning the materials up after hours in the early morning. Another complexity was meeting the code for the box gutter fall installation due to the existing steelwork and the need to utilise the existing stormwater system. Because of the low pitch of the roof, we used .48BMT Prodeck sheeting with a 50mm high rib. This profile offers excellent water-carrying capacity and superior spanning ability, which gave us the advantage with all the internal structure challenges to maximise leak prevention.

Highlights

The highlight of this project was selecting a product best suited to the building’s needs and challenges. Our skilled supervisor navigated daily complexities, maintained safety standards, and worked closely with the team to provide onsite training and upskilling opportunities with this unique installation.
